Charlottetown, Stratford is considered a suburb of the capital city. Stratford is located in Queen's County on the southern coast of Prince Edward Island. Like many other Maritime cities, Arcadians were the first to settle in the area now known as Stratford around the 1750s. Agriculture was the way of life for the Stratford Arcadians, until shipbuilding at Fullerton's Marsh and other development slowly came to the area.
The town of Stratford is actually the amalgamation of four smaller communities of Bunbury, Cross Roads, Southport, and Keppoch-Kinlock. The municipal governments of the cities decided they needed more structure because of the rapid population and development growth Stratford was experiencing. The merger that was the creation of Stratford took place in 1990s.
Stratford is on a peninsula, surrounded by a few bodies of water, the Hillsborough River, Hillsborough Bay, Fullerton's Marsh and the Charlottetown Harbour. Transportation to Stratford is convenient as the Trans Canada Highway goes right through the small town. Stratford has many attractive accommodations to come stay in and relaxing outdoor activities like golf and water sports. Stratford is 4 km (2 mi.) from
Charlottetown.
