Located in Queen's County, directly west of Charlottetown, lays the community of Cornwall. Cornwall is named after an English family, the Newsons, who were originally from Cornwall, England and later settled in the Cornwall area. The first English settlers arrived in 1790, however there are records of French farmers in the North River area as early as the beginning of the 1700s. The two main industries in Cornwall's past were farming and shipbuilding; these were successful for over 100 years, yet dramatically declined in the 1920s. Now the city of Cornwall industries include retailing, manufacturing, tourism, with residential development making a boom since 1995.

Cornwall is very accessible for travelers with the Trans Canada Highway actually bisecting Cornwall from east to west. Also, the Confederation Bridge is only moments away for you to explore further. There are a few churches that are worth visiting in Cornwall including the St. Francis of Assisi and the Cornerstone Baptist Church. With fantastic waterfront views of North River and numerous parks and outdoor activities for the family, Cornwall is a destination of interest not to miss. Cornwall is 11 km (7 mi.) west of Charlottetown.
