Canoe Cove is positioned where Highway 19 and Highway 19A meet. The Mi'kmaq were the initial settlers to venture to the land where Canoe Cove now rests. Canoe Cove gets its name from the fact that the Mi'kmaq would travel across the Northumberland Strait in their canoes to settle on the land at Canoe Cove. Canoe Cove is 23 km (14.3 mi.) southwest of Charlottetown, traveling on Highway 19.
