Mill River East, a community branched off from Mill River, was founded in the early 1800s. Mill River East is situated on the north western portion of Prince Edward Island and belongs to the beautiful county of Prince. Mill River East is also an unincorporated community, positioned on Highway 145. As well, in the 1800s, shipbuilding took place here in Mill River East. Today, the main industries in Mill River East are agriculture and farming. Summerside is 63.3 km (39.3 mi.) southeast of Mill River East.

Mill River East is very close in proximity to a first class 18-hole gold course, considered to be one of the best courses in eastern Canada. The Mill River Fun Park is not technically a provincial park, but is own by the province and boasts many exciting games and activities ranging from waterslides to bumper boats. Various activities in and around Mill River East include walking on scenic trails amongst all the wilderness and wildlife, picnicking in beautiful parks, fishing, biking, wagon rides and so much more.
