Bedeque is situated near the southern shores of Prince Edward Island by Bedeque Bay and the Dunk River, just south of Summerside, which rests on the opposing side of the bay. Bedeque is a small community, which was officially incorporated in 1966. The area surrounding Bedeque Bay was dubbed by the Mi'kmaq as "the place that lies on the backward turn." A key industry in Bedeque is potato farming, as well as other various types of agriculture. Bedeque is 14.6 km (9.1 mi.) southeast of Summerside, traveling down Highway 1A.
The James Colledge Pope Monument, located in Lower Bedeque, commemorates the achievements of James Colledge Pope, including his contributions as premier as well as his efforts in the confederation of Canada. A replica school of the one L.M. Montgomery taught at rests in Lower Bedeque as well, and features items that were common in the late 1800s. Bedeque features lots of wildlife, gorgeous sunsets, beautiful rolling hills and a stunning coastline. Enjoy swimming, clam digging, hiking, boating and so much more while in Bedeque.
