French River is positioned centrally on the northern shores of Prince Edward Island. The community of French River is also a member of Queens County. French River is still an unincorporated community, situated by a river of the same name. Because of its small population and beautiful location, French River acts as an excellent tourist destination.

Yankee Hill, a local cemetery, is the resting place of 250 sailors who lost their lives in a deadly 1851 storm. The cemetery here pays tribute to these brave fishermen. Its main industries are the aforementioned tourism, as well as fishing. French River is a driving distance of just 18.3 km (11.4 mi.) northwest of Cavendish.

French River is home to an art gallery that celebrates the art of a local painter, Tony Diodati. As well, Anne's House of Dreams is a local house that illustrates the lifestyles of two of author, L.M. Montgomery's fictional character. The beautiful Cape Tyron Lighthouse is positioned atop a rocky cliff, looking out to the sea and the pristine farmlands that surround French River. French River is the proud home of two excellent golf courses, situated in the middle of all the natural beauty.
